Many awards for newcomers.
The award-winning, flavored white bars ranged from classic caramelized milk to matcha tea, cranberries and sweet pointed peppers. The 100% cocoa bars developed particularly well, which indicates a progressive increase in interest and quality.
Europe was also well represented this year: Scandinavia won 30 awards and newcomers from Germany won 13 awards. British producers did well with 27 awards, including four gold medals, from new and established brands.
In the emerging Far East market, awards were also made to various manufacturers, many of them from Thailand, including the first gold for a bar with a salted egg taste.
Due to the current Covid restrictions, the Tree-to-Bar and Bean-To-Bar Competition held separately this year. The other categories (for filled chocolates, chocolate-based bars, Hot Chocolate, spreads) will follow in October 2021.
The evaluation The jury was made up of more than 30 leading personalities from the entire food sector, who came together in internal virtual tasting sessions to discuss each individual chocolate.
