Sugar-free chocolate made in Scotland. The cocoa beans for the Bean to Bar chocolate come from Belize in Central America from the Uncommon Cacao cooperative in Punta Gorda.

Uncommon Cacao in German: unusual cocoa, was founded by Emily Stone in 2010. As the founder of Maya Mountain Cacao , she aimed to give the indigenous people of Belize and Guatemala a perspective for their cocoa cultivation. Traditionally, all of the cocoa grown in Belize was sold to a well-known European chocolate manufacturer who was not interested in the quality and therefore did not pay a good price for the cocoa beans. Emily Stone wants to change this by addressing three points:

• For the common good: to build functioning planter communities by creating new sales channels
• For the environment: to promote reforestation and to practice sustainable cultivation and forestry
• For productivity: to grow the highest quality cocoa profitably

MMC supports the cocoa farmers with the necessary equipment, with organic certification, financing and sells the cocoa to customers who place increasing value on transparent, ethical trade relationships.

As of January 2016, MMC was sourcing cocoa from over 600 cocoa farmers who are participating in the program. It has resulted in competitors having to pay a higher price to their farmers as well. So the new system has helped the entire cocoa farmer community. In this way, families can send their children to school and drastically improve their living conditions.
