Six of the ten known highly aromatic cocoa varieties that exist in the world grow in Peru. The Chuncho variety grows at an unusual height in the Cusco region. The city of Cusco lies at an altitude of 3,400m and is the former capital of the Inca Empire. Most visitors to the Matchu Pitchus stop here and acclimatise themselves first, before they continue to the heights of the Andes to Machu Picchu.

The cocoa pods of the Chuncho cocoa are relatively small, but highly aromatic. The cocoa variety may have the most flavors in the world. The cocoa for Peru Puro is grown sustainably and ethically in agroforestry systems. It is thus ensured that the rainforest is not destroyed by slash and burn, but is preserved. The small cooperative has 45 smallholders who receive twice the minimum organic fair trade price from Peru Puro for their cocoa.

The dark ORGANIC chocolate with 85% cocoa content is made from these cocoa beans. To do this, the cocoa beans are carefully fermented and dried in Peru in the Urabamba Valley. Then they are sent on the long journey to Europe, where they are processed into Grand Cru chocolate in Switzerland.
