Ucayali 70% dark chocolate from Peru

The Ucayali region is located on the east coast of Peru and was long known as the main coca growing area. While many farmers in the region used to grow cocaine, they have increasingly turned to flavorful cacao as an alternative. One reason for this change is the premiums paid by the Peruvian government to eradicate coca cultivation and thus curb the associated crime, as well as the prices paid by craft chocolate manufacturers such as Goodnow Farms for premium cocoa.
