It is located in a nature reserve , in Alta Verapaz district near the town of Lanquin. The famous Semuc Champey pools are a popular tourist destination and at the same time an oasis in the middle of the woods. The Rio Cahabon River runs under the basins and has naturally fed the La Laguna plantation for centuries. The water is crystal clear, the area was declared a natural heritage in 1999.
