Nordur Salt Islandia - Sea salt flakes from Iceland

The salt from the Arctic Ocean has the same proportion of calcium, potassium, magnesium and sulphates as the natural seawater itself. It is produced using environmentally friendly geothermal production on the Icelandic island of Karlsey and is the only salt production with a neutral Co2 footprint. The seawater is filtered, removing only dirt and algae and preserving the mineral content. The seawater is then heated until the correct salt content is reached and the mixture can be transferred to open pans. Here the water is heated again so that salt pyramids are formed. These eventually fall off and are harvested manually. What remains is a sea salt full of minerals.

The producer Nor∂ur & Co. is based on the small Karsley Island in the bay of Brei∂arfjör∂ur, in a picturesque landscape of fjords on the north-west coast of Iceland. The salt is packaged in the award-winning blue boxes or tins with the Icelandia mermaid.
