Josef Zotter founded his business in Riegersburg in 1999 and is an Austrian bean-to-bar manufacturer: this means that the entire process from bean to finished bar takes place in his manufactory. So Zotter Schokoladen really still imports the cocoa beans themselves, which are then processed into bars, pralines and Hot Chocolate - so you can be sure to always get consistently high quality at Zotter Schokolade. Of course, special attention is paid to the purchased raw materials: All of them come from organic and sustainable cultivation and are traded fairly. Zotter is committed to a fair remuneration of the cocoa farmers and therefore joined the Fairtrade organisation in Austria in 2004.

In fact, Zotter is thus so far the only European manufacturer that produces exclusively in Organic quality and fair trade (with fairly traded cocoa). However, it has joined the Fairtrade Organization and now works directly with the farmers of its cocoa beans. Fair trade doesn't get any better than this!
